Designer-plasticienne, Mélanie Hilaire développe une pratique à la croisée du design et des arts plastiques, qui explore les enjeux sociaux et territoriaux à travers le dessin, le graphisme, le jeu et la création d’objets. Elle mène également une pratique collective au sein du collectif Millemains, avec Solène Chartier et Jado Herbert, où elle conçoit des projets artistiques contextuels en lien avec les territoires et leurs habitant-es.
Invitée en résidence à Gilbard pendant trois semaines, Mélanie Hilaire a porté son attention sur la rue de Liverpool et les usages, récits et représentations qui lui sont associés. Elle a développé une démarche de cartographie sensible, conçue comme un outil de rencontre et de collecte de récits. À travers un dispositif mobile en forme de voiture, les habitant-es étaient invité-es à répondre à différentes questions liées à leurs expériences du quartier, puis à traduire leurs souvenirs et perceptions par le dessin, le découpage et le pastel.
Cette démarche a permis de faire émerger une cartographie collective et subjective de la rue de Liverpool, construite à partir des expériences et des regards de celles et ceux qui la fréquentent.

Als designer en beeldend kunstenaar ontwikkelt Mélanie Hilaire een praktijk op het kruispunt van design en beeldende kunst. Deze aanpak maakte het mogelijk om een collectieve en subjectieve kaart van de Liverpoolstraat te laten ontstaan, opgebouwd vanuit de ervaringen en perspectieven van de mensen die er wonen, werken of komen.

As a designer and visual artist, Mélanie Hilaire develops a practice at the intersection of design and visual arts, exploring social and territorial issues through drawing, graphic design, play and object creation. She also works collectively within the Millemains collective, alongside Solène Chartier and Jado Herbert, where she develops context-specific artistic projects in dialogue with places and their inhabitants.
During a three-week residency at Gilbard, Mélanie Hilaire focused her attention on Liverpool Street and the uses, stories and representations associated with it. She developed an approach based on sensitive mapping, conceived as a tool for meeting people and collecting stories. Through a mobile car-shaped installation, local residents were invited to respond to different questions about their experiences of the neighbourhood, and then to translate their memories and perceptions through drawing, paper cutting and pastel.
This process led to the emergence of a collective and subjective map of Liverpool Street, built from the experiences and perspectives of the people who live in, work in or use the area.
